SONY OPTIARC AMERICA ROLLS OUT SLIM EXTERNAL BLU-RAY DISC REWRITABLE DRIVE

Up to 50 GB of data records and 3D Blu-ray high-definition content is playing

Sony Optiarc America today announced its first slim and portable external Blu-ray Disc ® rewritable disc (BD) to compliment, netbooks, laptops and desktop PCs.

The new model BDX-S 500U writes single BD-R media at up to 6 x and dual layer BD-R media 4 X speeds, capture a complete 25 GB disc in about 20 minutes.The 6 X recording speed is achieved with the aid of the 6 X compatible BD-R media, and a blank disc 25 GB Sony BD-R is included in the details pane. also included in the drive is CyberLink Media Suite 8 capture, design, edit, back up, high-definition personal content display and playback of Blu-ray disc movies including 3D Blu-ray movies.

The portable drive offers a quick and easy connections to a hi-speed USB (USB 2.0) digital interface for easy installation and maximum flexibility. it can be shared between computers, personal video, music or photo backup, making it an excellent replacement for a standard disk DVD drive brings all the advantages of Blu-ray disc technology, including 3D Blu-ray high-definition viewing capabilities.

The BDX-S 500U drive can record up to 50 GB of data for random-access storage and backup on the BD-R (write once) or BD-RE (rewritable) disks, or up to 220 minutes high-definition 24 M bps MPEG-4 AVC/h.264 video on a BD-R/RE 50 GB disk.

The drive also records standard 4.7 GB DVD + r discs with speeds, up to 8 X 8.5 GB DVD + R Double/dual layer on up to 4 X, DVD + RW on up to 8 X, DVD-RW in up to 6 X, CD-R in up to 24 X, CD-RW to up to 16 X, and the inclusion of the DVD-RAM at a speed of up to 5 X.

The BDX-S 500U drive will be available through authorized distributors, resellers, and then select online sites this month.
